THE FORGOTTEN DAY OF CHRIST
DAY OF CHRIST
By John Aldworth
Did you know that Jesus Christ has his own Day? A special day, a day devoted wholly to Him?
No, his day is not Christmas Day. Actually, December 25 is the birthday of the pagan sun god Solus Invicta, not of Christ who was born in the Judean autumn. “Christ Mass” in fact was a lie invented by the Roman Catholic Church to put a mask on false pagan worship. The Bible knows nothing of it, nor should Bible believers. You see, the Pope might be Catholic but Jesus Christ definitely isn’t.
Did you know that in the 12-month Catholic and Anglican church calendar not one day is specifically devoted to celebrating Jesus Christ as a person? The long list of saints' days and holy days do not include a single day our Lord could call his own. That’s an amazing omission when the Bible declares over and over that there is indeed a DAY OF CHRIST.
As to a public holiday just for Him, forget it. There are public holidays to celebrate the pagan festivals of Easter and Christmas; there’s Labour Day, New Year’s Day, Queen’s Birthday and even Thanksgiving Day but no Christ’s Day. Why?
The answer is that neither the world nor its religious institutions, even so called Christian ones, want to truly acknowledge the earth’s Creator and mankind’s Redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ, by designating a day for Him.
Yet in John 8:56 Jesus told the Pharisees:
“Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my Day: and he saw it and was glad.”
And in Luke 17:22 the Lord told his disciples on earth:
“The days will come when ye shall long to see one of the Days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it.”
Bad enough Christendom does not acknowledge even one Day of Jesus Christ. How would they get on when Christ states there should be at least two? (My understanding is that there is a Day of Christ to be revealed in glory in heaven, followed then by a day of his personal presence and rule upon earth, with at least one of those days lasting a thousand years, but more of that later).
Thank God for inspiring the Apostle Paul to write often about the Day of Christ in his epistles. And shame on the professing church for not taking his God-given revelations seriously. Fact is there is not one widely read commentary that makes any room in its scheme of things to come for a Day of Christ. Instead Christ’s Day is forcibly torn from its context and dumped into the 1,000 year millennial reign of Christ, which you would find in the Book of Revelation.
Consider then what Paul said of the Day of Christ:
2 Thess. 2:2. “That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the Day of Christ is at hand”.
1 Cor. 1:8. “Who shall confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the Day of our Lord Jesus Christ”.
1 Cor. 5:5. “To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the Day of the Lord Jesus”.
2 Cor. 1:14. “As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are ours in the in the Day of the Lord Jesus”.
Phil. 1:6. “Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the Day of Jesus Christ”.
Phil. 1:10. “That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the Day of Christ”.
Phil. 2:16. “Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the Day of Christ that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain”.
The Bible teaches that doctrinal truth should be proved and established “in the mouth of two or three witnesses”. Above are listed seven firm proofs of the fact that there is and that there will indeed be a Day of Christ.
From the verses just shared it is also clear that for believers climbing the true “Stairway to Heaven” - by believing the truths of the dispensation of the grace of God and the Mystery presented in his epistles by the Apostle Paul - the Day of Christ will realise all they have ever hoped and prayed for.
It will be a Day of great rejoicing. It will be the day when our spirits are finally and fully saved. It will be the Day when Christ’s work in us is complete and fully manifested, revealing us as blameless before God. We will also be revealed as believers who are “sincere”, that is genuinely true, and “without offence” (to God, that is).
It is the Day that those who have held forth the “word of life” of Paul’s prison epistle teachings will know together with the Apostle that they have not run or laboured in vain.
It is the Day of the blazing forth of the glory of Christ Jesus the man now made the “great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13). Best of all, as Col. 3:4 says:
“When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye (true believers that is) also appear with Him in glory”.
